Conference on sustainability in Groningen

The Groningen Sustainability Conference 2027 brings together scientists, policymakers, businesses, civil society organizations, and international institutions. The Energy and Sustainability Research Institute Groningen (ESRIG) is organizing the conference together with the four Schools for Science and Society of the University of Groningen. The goal: to draw lessons from the Sustainable Development Goals and form an agenda for sustainable development after 2030.

Five central themes

The conference addresses five themes that define the sustainable future. Participants will discuss lessons from the SDGs for the post-2030 agenda, building resilient societies, the relationship between climate and development, health and well-being as a foundation for sustainability, and the opportunities and risks of AI and digitalization.

Groningen as a stage for change

Groningen is a city in transition. The municipality is working on renewable energy, hydrogen, circular innovation, and climate-neutral urban living. The University of Groningen reinforces this with interdisciplinary research in the fields of energy transition, governance, and digitalization. The conference themes here are not abstract discussions, but the subject of ongoing research and policy.

Program and target group

The program includes Early Career/PhD Days, a main conference, and a field tour. The conference targets professionals from science, policy, business, and civil society who wish to actively contribute to the post-2030 sustainability agenda. Participation in the Scientific Committee, the Local Organization Committee, or as a session chair is possible.
