The International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) is a scientific society founded in 1935. Over the years, ISBT has grown into a truly international association where transfusion medicine professionals from more than 100 countries come together to share knowledge and thereby improve the safety of blood transfusion worldwide.
ISBT consists of 16 working groups; groups of ISBT members that promote science, research, and best practices within their specific areas of expertise in the transfusion chain.
The association organizes an international and regional congress at locations around the world and online, as well as many other educational activities such as webinars, live journal clubs, and workshops. We advocate for the well-being of blood donors and patients by promoting the ISBT Code of Ethics. ISBT is a non-governmental actor in official relations with the WHO.
