ETHICOMP is an international scientific conference on the ethical, social, political, and philosophical implications of technology. The 2027 edition brings together academics, tech professionals, policymakers, and industry for a multi-day forum on AI, the Internet of Things, Extended Reality, and Virtual Reality.
About ETHICOMP
ETHICOMP is one of the longest-running international conference series in the field of computer and technology ethics. The series was founded in 1995 by Professor Terry Bynum and Professor Simon Rogerson from the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility (CCSR). Since then, conferences have been regularly organized in Europe and Asia, where hundreds of papers have been presented by participants from all continents. The conference is known as an open and inclusive forum where both young researchers and established names are welcome.
Program and content
ETHICOMP 2027 offers a broad interdisciplinary program featuring presentations, panel discussions, and workshops focusing on the ethical and societal dimensions of emerging technologies, with a specific focus on AI, IoT, Extended Reality (XR), and Virtual Reality (VR). Speakers present their work in regular sessions consisting of a 15-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute discussion, or as part of panel sessions. Some of the sessions are held at the Brightlands Smart Services Campus in Heerlen, where international participants connect with the regional ecosystem of data scientists, knowledge institutions, and companies working on responsible AI.
Who is the event for?
The conference is aimed at academics, philosophers, technologists, computer professionals, policymakers, government officials, and everyone involved in the ethical side of information technology and digital innovation.
