The International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) is a biennial event focused on the industrial development of renewable marine energy.
From October 5-7, 2026, The Hague will welcome the global ocean energy community when the International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) and Ocean Energy Europe (OEE) join forces for an event on renewable marine energy in The Hague.
Following the conclusion of the Ocean Energy Europe 2025 Conference & Exhibition (OEE2025), the International Energy Agency’s Ocean Energy Systems (IEA-OES) and Ocean Energy Europe, along with the Dutch Energy from Water Association (EWA), have announced that they will join forces to host ICOE-OEE 2026 in The Hague, Netherlands, from 5 to 7 October 2026.
The aim of the conference and exhibition is to share recent experiences from research and demonstration projects. ICOE aims to accelerate development by stimulating collaborative networks between companies and research and development centers. During the conference, OES will organize a “poster prize”: a cash award for three students selected by an international jury composed of OES members. This award, presented on behalf of OES, is intended to identify an emerging professional expected to make a significant and lasting contribution to the realization of industrial ocean energy.
Saskia Bruines, Alderman for Economic Affairs of The Hague, said: “The Hague is proud to host ICOE OEE 2026. As a coastal city with major ambitions in the blue economy and impact economy, we see marine energy as a key driver of sustainable innovation. This event aligns perfectly with our vision for the Scheveningen port area, where we are strengthening our focus on maritime innovation and entrepreneurship. We look forward to welcoming the global ocean energy community and showcasing what The Hague has to offer.”
This event, which focuses on ocean energy technologies, combines the International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) and the annual Ocean Energy Europe conference and exhibition.
Ocean Energy Europe is the primary organizer of the conference, with support from local host EWA. A joint ICOE-OEE event offers the sector a unique opportunity to come together, network, do business, and hear the latest news and developments. The event includes an exhibition hall, a conference program featuring various technology and policy tracks, side events, networking events, and a site visit to key Dutch locations and companies in the ocean energy field.
The Dutch Association for Water-Based Energy (EWA) unites companies and research organizations involved in hydropower, wave and tidal energy, Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC), and salinity gradient energy. The association promotes the generation and application of water-based energy and represents the shared interests of the Dutch sector.
Ocean Energy Europe is the world’s largest network of ocean energy professionals. The annual event brings together hundreds of people from all corners of the sector, including politicians, senior decision-makers, and key industry players.
Together with the local organizer, EWA: Dutch Energy from Water Association, the ICOE OEE 2026 conference aims to bring together innovators, policymakers, and industry experts who are shaping the future of marine renewable energy.
