Times of turbulence and disruption also offer opportunities for change and transformation. The HSC 2026 in Hamburg takes place at a crucial time for international cooperation. This year, the conference will focus on consolidating achievements and expanding its reach and scope, recognizing the HSC’s unique role as a safe space for challenging conversations and unconventional exchanges.

Opportunities for change and transformation

By addressing today’s most critical sustainability challenges, the conference aims to help reimagine multilateralism fit for today’s world. It will bring together a diverse group of voices from different corners of the globe to strengthen global trust and address current global disruptions.

Improving global collaboration

The Hamburg Sustainability Conference is driven by the vision that achieving the SDGs requires interdisciplinary and trusting collaboration across the international community. The conference aims to foster new partnerships and collective action among those willing to commit to action: global policymakers, private sector leaders, academic experts, and civil society representatives. Multilateral alliances will advocate for scalable projects and progressive policies. Open dialogues will lead to decisions that translate into concrete actions with measurable results.

Getting the world on board

The Hamburg Sustainability Conference not only brings together participants from politics, business, academia, and civil society, but also supports the efforts of the United Nations by informing citizens locally and globally about the urgency of achieving the SDGs and inspiring them to contribute. This awareness aims to bring new hope to what the world can achieve if we work together more effectively.

Initiators of HSC 2026

The annual conference is a joint initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, and the Michael Otto Foundation.
