Nationaal AI & Data congres 2026

What do the rapid technological developments in artificial intelligence and data mean for the legal and administrative domain? During the National AI & Data Congress on Thursday, February 5, 2026, chairpersons Astrid Sixma (Kennedy Van der Laan) and Menno Weij (The Data Lawyers) will discuss the impact of AI on (legal) practice. This is the leading congress on AI in the Netherlands.

Which topics and speakers will be featured at the National AI & Data Congress 2026?

1. Compliance & AI : AI and staying compliant: how does your customer become compliant and what should we pay attention to when using AI? Arnoud Engelfriet (ICTRecht) will give a presentation on this topic.
2. Privacy, Data Protection & AI : Laura Poolman (Kennedy Van der Laan) discusses the rules for the (re)use of personal data in the training and fine-tuning of AI models, and the challenges involved. She discusses the extent to which AI model developers are permitted to scrape personal data from the web to train their models, as has happened at large LLMs. She also addresses how social media platforms use their own user data for this purpose. Furthermore, she addresses the leeway that buyers and users of AI systems have to use personal data of customers or employees for fine-tuning, and the restrictions that apply to special categories of personal data, such as health data.
3. Contracts & AI : More and more organizations are entering into contracts for new AI applications. Louis Jonker and Merel Hazes (both Van Doorne) discuss the legal aspects of these agreements. What should you pay attention to when purchasing a new AI application? What challenges does AI present? What should you do with the AI Act? Using several sample clauses, they address the perspectives of the customer and supplier. This session aims to provide you with practical tools to conclude a better agreement.
4. Panel discussion : The panel consists of Douwe Groenevelt (Viridea), Wouter Seinen (Pinsent Masons) and Jeroen Zweers (Dutch Legal Tech).
