In 2028, Rotterdam will host the largest international museum conference, ICOM.

The ICOM General Conference is a world-renowned platform for exchange on current issues facing museums today and the most innovative solutions to them.

Since 1948, ICOM has brought together the international museum community every three years around a crucial theme to promote cultural exchange, foster international cooperation, and inspire local action, so that museums can continue to fulfill their public mission in service to society.

Dialogue and connection at ICOM 2028

The theme for the 2028 edition in Rotterdam is “Building Bridges. Connecting the World, Cultures, and Generations.”

The event will highlight museums as places for dialogue and connection, reflecting Rotterdam’s open, inclusive, and collaborative spirit. The hybrid program will take place at the Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre and will be supplemented by tours throughout the Netherlands showcasing Dutch collections, innovations, and cultural partnerships.

The ICOM General Conference brings over 5,000 participants from around the world to Rotterdam, strengthening international networks, stimulating cultural exchange and creating a lasting impact for the museum and conference sector.
